Why This Wedding Photographer Runs Off With The Wedding Dress

Why Your Photographer Photographs The Wedding Dress

Your wedding dress is one of the most expensive items of the wedding day. If you’re like me, you’ve spent a lot of time looking for the perfect dress, wondering if there’s going to be anything that speaks to you. Do you get anxiety from thinking about it? I use to get stressed at every meal, hoping I could still pull the zipper up after I ate. And just like the scene from Pretty Woman, I would’ve rather taken a nap than shop at one more store.

Or you could be one of the Bride’s who grew up knowing exactly the kind of dress you wanted. Perhaps you’re like my sister, who found her dress at the first shop she visited. If you’re blessed, you’re able to have one made to fit your style. Could be you’re living out your childhood dream of wearing a dress that was first worn by your mom or grandma. Now it’s your turn to wear it. That’s what Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter did. I’d love to have been her and worn that dress. Maybe your wedding dress is the one item your whole wedding was designed around. Regardless, this one item, in itself, holds so much value of the actual wedding day….why not let it shine?

When I arrive to your wedding, one of the first things I ask for is your wedding dress. Most Brides question why. They’re scared for anyone to touch it. They don’t want it to see the light of day, until they’re ready to step into it. If my Brides can trust me, here’s why I need the dress.

  1. Your dress needs its own moment of glory! It needs to be documented, adored, gasped at! It needs onlookers to give it a moment of silence….it needs to own the day!
  2. The dress needs a few of it’s own pages in your wedding album. It needs to shine by itself before you even step into it.
  3. Photographing each section of the day, helps build up the excitement, each time you flip through your wedding album. By chance, you show your album to friends, years later, these kind of photographs always makes them feel like they were there. It’s as if they didn’t miss a thing at your wedding.

While the Bride is having her hair and makeup done, I’m walking around the venue, looking for the perfect place to hang the dress. So if I disappear, don’t panic, I promise you, I’m working. During this wedding day, we had a lot of extra time, so I took the dress on a little adventure. And a little side note, when I say “I give you every photo I take,” this, here, is what I mean. The majority of the dress photos were taken in front of the home, on the front porch but the Bride still received these images. She may like one of these better.

I will always give a variety of photos….vertical and horizontal.

Here is where the dress chose to shine! If you’re someone who doesn’t think a dress can speak to you, you’re wrong! This dress was made for this front porch. Everything, here, danced so well together and we made beautiful music, as I sang Hallelujah the whole time. I love the sideview. It’s like a little tease of what’s to come.

If your venue has a stoop or second level porch, please, please, please let me steal you away for a photo op like this. This is just so beautiful. This whole set of photos feels like I’m inside a Southern Living Magazine. I’m here for all plantation style weddings. The way to my heart is anything with columns, hard woods, open stair rails, long driveways and open grounds. I don’t need to explain in detail, you see the photos.

This photo was unexpected but my gosh do I love it!!! The Bride’s Mother In Law arrived with the ring bearer and flower girl for hair and makeup. The ring bearer is the Bride’s step son. He stopped and admired the dress on his way in. He touched the lace, he fanned out the skirt and asked a few questions. I wish I had a tape recorder, he was so sweet. He said he couldn’t wait for his dad to get married so he could see her in the dress. Are you crying, yet? Me either, but it was a touching moment.

If you’re a Bride to be and haven’t even thought of photographing your dress, I hope you do. Deciding this, at the last moment, during the rush of the day, may not seem like it’s worth it but I promise you it is! For one thing, you’ve already paid for the photographer, so let us make the most of your investment. Get all the photos you can. Trust us. Believe in us. Let us shine. We’re here for you and want to make you proud of what we can do.
